I was honored to have represented the State of Rhode Island in the National Miss Black USA Scholarship Pageant which was held in May 2007 in The Gambia, West Africa. You can learn more about The Gambia, Africa *the home of Kunta Kinte* by visiting http://www.visitthegambia.gm/.
The national pageant was a great experience. Africa is beautiful and the people were so kind. I felt like I was in the Bahamas because it was that gorgeous. Although I didn't win the title of Miss Black USA I left with a new level of confidence, a new vision for myself and a new view of the world. I also left the country having made multiple connections, earned cash prizes, established co-business ventures, a library named in our honor, and a tuition scholarship for me to continue my education.
I have also been named an official Goodwill Ambassador for The Gambia, Africa. President Yahya A.J.J. Jammeh was very good to us when visiting his country and has afforded me the opportunity to go beyond what I could have ever imagined.
Thank you all very much for all your support! Having the privilege of serving the state as Miss Black Rhode Island has been a blessing. I look forward to seeing you all in the events I have scheduled for this year!!!
